New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson is considering a constitutional amendment which will limit property tax increases for home owners! There have been many homes purchased which resulted in huge property tax increases for the new home owners. The Bernalillo County Assessor has said she is going to roll values back to 2002 values for homes sold since then. She would then add the 3% increase in homeowners property tax values to bring them in line with 2010 values.
This is good news for anyone who has bought a home since 2001, especially for those who saw big jumps in their property tex bill. We look forward to seeing how this progresses.
